Michael Lehmbeck is the Chief Technology Officer for BankUnited. In this current role Michael assists the Bank in navigating the complex FSI compliance and regulatory landscape while also leading the Bank’s adoption of and innovation in the cloud. With the assistance of a stellar group of technologists and strategic partners, Michael has seen the Bank through its cloud adoption from initial disaster recovery resilience, to on-premise production datacenter migration, and forward into DevOps automation and cloud-native development/design. Michael’s background in Banking and technology expands over twenty plus (20+) years with technology leadership positions in both mid-size (BankAtlantic, BankUnited), and large national (PNC, BB&T) FSI’s. Michael is an athlete and builder at heart which is reflected in his professional life through his team building, avid sense of teamwork/mentorship, and willingness to “roll-up his sleeves and get his hands dirty” whenever the situation calls. This mindset has led to Michael serving in various IT/IS positions over the course of his career ranging from code development, systems engineering, enterprise architecture, security operations, etc. With degrees in Finance, Entrepreneurial Management, and Information Technology, Michael has an appreciation for constant learning and the need for both business (budgeting, strategic planning) and technology (architecture/design) skillsets which when joined successfully, enable technology to be applied in a way that helps drive business outcomes. Michael’s earliest work experiences in the service industry (working in kitchens, bartending, etc.) exposed him early on to the need to be customer obsessed and has been a consistent hallmark throughout his career in technology.
