Director of Engineering
A Thinking Ape owns and operates Chatterous, a communications service that allows groups of friends to stay in contact with one another.
I am the VP of Engineering at A Thinking Ape, where I help build communities through massively multiplayer online social mobile games. I have led the development, release, and live operations of multiple successful titles, including Kingdoms of Heckfire, Party in my Dorm, and Casino X. I currently oversee all engineering efforts including mobile games, tools, infrastructure, data analytics, and user acquisition pipelines. I've worn a lot of different hats while building mobile games, getting exposed to every aspect of product development and growing a startup. This includes: - Driving the full stack implementation of 12 mobile titles. - Leading the product side (including game design, user acquisition, art, and community management) for a suite of social casino games. - Overseeing the initial development of an advanced user acquisition system, with prediction models for LTV's, automated campaign management, and install attribution. - Deploying new revenue streams within multiple products, including user-specific promotion systems, rewarded video mechanisms, and offer walls. - Overhauling engineering hiring process for intern, junior, and senior engineers, significantly increasing success rate and decreasing hours spent per hire. - Managing the transition from on-premise hosting to a hybrid setup including AWS. - Establishing multiple new teams and business units, including new games, data analytics, and infrastructure teams. - Transitioning engineering department from 100% in-office to remote-first. - Helping lead ATA to multi-millions in profit each year, resulting in $105M USD acquisition by Embracer.
