For my entire professional career, I have been in the business of bringing joy to people’s lives in the sports entertainment industry. For the past nine years, I have served as the Senior Manager of Entertainment Marketing for the Houston Astros – this position falls under the Fan Experience arm of the team’s Marketing department – where I oversee the marketing, branding, and character profile of the team’s mascot, “Orbit”. During my time with the Astros, I have accomplished several objectives set forth by the organization and myself, strategically utilizing my talents and skillsets to bring our organization to the international stage, garnering millions of positive impressions for the team across social media platforms and national sports media outlets including ESPN, the Huffington Post, Yahoo! Sports, USA Today, CBS Sports, MLB Network, Sports Illustrated, and E! Online. Most recently, while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, I proactively introduced a number of different initiatives to remain relevant in the marketplace, while simultaneously driving revenue for the company – most notably creating high-energy, interactive virtual educational assembly programs performed over Zoom that address important topics such as anti-bullying, literacy, STEM, making smart choices, and preparing for standardized tests. The objective in creating these shows was to provide a live, entertaining, and educational experience for students and educators that was every bit as interactive as an in-person show. As a result, we were able to retain outreach numbers that were comparable to what the team was experiencing pre-pandemic. Additionally, through the establishment of a “Cameo” profile for Orbit, we were able to produce over 800 personalized videos for our fans over the course of 18 months, in turn raising over $30,000 for the Astros Foundation to assist in Covid relief efforts.
