As the Alcoa Power and Propulsion Business Unit Casting Process Owner I am responsible for leading a team of engineers and their staff, representing each Alcoa Howmet Casting facility specialized in foundry technology. This includes vacuum systems, induction heating, process materials and methods. Using a disciplined set of tools, including statistics process control, 6 Sigma principles, FMEA and more, processes are characterized for capability and identification of critical process variables. This is deployed to understand the most important and impactful sub-processes to insure that these activities are in control and capable leading to product integrity and customer satisfaction. Goals include standardization of processes between facilities, common implementation of new techniques or technologies and development of new technology for application to foundry operations. Established corporate wide metrics for tracking the performance of foundry processes are monitored and refined as technology and knowledge advances. This is monitored at the highest levels of the organization to help direct required resource for success. Continuous improvement guarantees a vibrant and successful future for Alcoa Howmet and our customers. Data driven decisions, based on business impact, are key to supplying quality components that meet or exceed expectations.
