With nearly 40 years’ experience, John is a senior technology executive and Board member having successfully delivered large scale technology led transformation, innovation, and services for some of the biggest names in the technology industry including Microsoft, Yahoo and BBC. John is also an experienced Non-Executive Director (with FTSE and AIM listed companies and a UK Government Agency) and a founder of 3 successful technology start-ups. John’s experience brings a high degree of technology, commercial and leadership ability operating at a global scale that has proven itself repeatedly throughout his career. John spent 11 years at Microsoft where he led a large software and service engineering organisation responsible for developing and running Microsoft’s online MSN platform around the world. As Senior Vice President at Yahoo for 5 years, John led a team of 1600 software and service engineering staff responsible for all Yahoo services in 22 countries outside the US. At Yahoo, John also managed Yahoo’s software engineering centre in Bangalore, India with 800 staff as well as the Internationalisation and Localisation teams in California. John was CTO at the BBC for 4½ years responsible for all IT, production and broadcast technology and managed a budget of £500m a year, 1200 full time staff and a further 1000 vendor/contract staff. As CTO at Wood Mackenzie, a leading data analytics firm in the Energy and Mining sector, John delivered sophisticated data analytics on a very large scale including using machine learning to provide long term predictive analytics. John was also CTO at an Earth observation satellite imaging company where he was responsible for building and leading the team developing Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence platforms to automate the analysis of satellite imagery and video. John is on the Board of National Grid ESO, the UKs electricity system operator and Brooks Macdonald Group plc. a UK Wealth Management company with £17bn of assets under management.
