I do a mix of engineering and design at Virta. We're an online specialty medical clinic that reverses type 2 diabetes safely and sustainably, without the risks, costs, or side effects of medications or surgery. Our innovations in nutritional biochemistry, data science and digital tools combined with our clinical expertise are shifting the diabetes treatment paradigm from management to reversal. Learn more about us, including our current team, advisors and investors, at virtahealth.com/about.My philosophy on being a highly-effective digital designer: A designer's job shouldn't end with handing over laboriously detailed comps. To create stand-out experiences means assisting and sometimes leading certain aspects of the implementation, particularly in maintaining UI consistency and fluid, tactile interactions. An effective digital designer should seek to improve the fidelity at which they communicate with engineers. This ensures the faithful translation of the designer's intent, and often a better end-product as a result of tighter feedback loops between engineering and design.I'm fond of agile methodology and believe in rapid prototyping, iteration, and user testing. Products are living things whose fidelity increases over time in response to the environment.My current process goes something like this: Research > Generation/Ideation/Discussion > Sketching/Wireframing > Functional Prototyping > User Testing > Refining > Ship. Repeat.I'm symbiotic with Sketch, Photoshop and Illustrator. I code standards compliant HTML5 & CSS3 (including PostCSS, Sass, Less, et al.), and Javascript (ES5/6).
