Starting with the premise that clothes should look and feel good, Universal Standard was founded in 2015 with the aim of creating a line of modern essentials, with a chic, downtown but classic aesthetic – for women size 10 - 28. We are a direct-to-consumer business that is driven by producing the highest quality, most thoughtfully engineered, style-relevant garments for our customers. At the heart of Universal Standard is our pledge to continuously elevate - and ultimately exceed - expectations. This applies to every aspect of our brand. From the most obvious (customer service), to the more surprising (our packaging), and the sometimes unexpected (special treats). No more compromising. Alexandra Waldman, is the Co-Founder and Creative Director of Universal Standard. She and her business partner set out to close the infamous size gap in the fashion industry by creating a brand of uniquely modern essentials for women of all sizes. At Universal Standard, Alexandra develops the creative vision for the brand and oversees both thedesign of all collections, and the visual direction of the brand overall. Alexandra founded the company with friend, Co-Founder and CEO, Polina Veksler after a turning point conversation about the lack of fashion available in her size on 5th Ave. Alexandra received her Bachelors of Arts in English Literature and Comparative Linguistics from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, and speaks several languages including English, Russian, French and Japanese.
