Currently a Product Specialist in the EMEA Engineered Storage Team at Oracle. Joined Oracle as a part of the Sun Microsystems acquisition in 2010. The product line I support can provide quite a bit of challenges for a Support Engineer. Your daily work will consist of anything from identifying faulty hardware components to mis-configurations, both within the NAS system and within the network and client infrastructure, as well as reading through system crash-dumps, reading source code to determine if the issue seen is a flaw in our code logic, and thus can be repeated, or if it's a one off caused by flaky hardware, analyzing network-traces, doing live troubleshooting on partially hung systems or systems with severe performance issues. As this NAS system also has some DAS capabilities using fiberchannel we also have to cover most of the SAN bases with zoning, lun-masking etc. The last few years I've been moving slightly more into supporting colleagues with difficult or complex customer issues while at the same time still working the "ordinary" call-flow. I also regularly am asked to mentor more junior colleagues to ease them in to the very complex world of a NAS system support engineer. In my previous career within Sun Microsystems I was a Systems and storage specialist, working mainly with large-scale internet-services, mid-range and enterprise storage systems and storage area networks. The storage area became a passion early in my career at Sun. Specialties: ZFS Storage Appliance. workflow scripting(For the ZFS-SA), analytic troubleshooting, Solaris, Sun hardware, Unix in general , Hitachi 9900 and 9900V-series storage.
