“Success is not in what you have, but who you are.” I have that quote on my office wall. It was a gift from my wonderful wife and two beautiful daughters. I look at it when I need a little reminder that the only way to embrace life and its successes and challenges is not to lose sight of who I am. We are shaped by our life experiences, including the people we meet and our interactions with them. Knowing they are influenced by us in return motivates me to be better every day. The great news is I happen to work at an extraordinary company, OceanFirst Bank, with a talented, motivated, and genuinely nice group of team members that make work something I look forward to every day. The level of commitment and passion from my coworkers to their fellow employees, our customers and our community, make me happy and proud to be their leader. Someone asked me to describe our company in three words the other day. I thought for a moment before responding, “dynamic, vibrant and enterprising”. Dynamic because we are constantly changing and evolving for the better, Vibrant because we have enormous energy and enthusiasm and Enterprising because of our initiative and resourcefulness. We work hard, take no shortcuts, and expect a lot. But we take time to enjoy our successes, welcome challenges and move forward in a rapidly changing, competitive industry. Talent and drive are necessary skills to succeed at our company, and so are healthy, honest, positive, and meaningful relationships. We have some fun too; a bit of laughter each day is good for the soul.
