Jared Joiner provides key leadership and support for the Department of Technology in San Francisco Unified School District, including strategic planning, management of key initiatives, daily operations, and the department's overall internal and external communications. Prior to joining SFUSD, as the Director of Teacher Happiness at Sokikom, Jared worked alongside teachers and school leaders to support their implementation of Sokikom, a bilingual social and adaptive supplementary math program, to improve the learning and teaching of mathematics in classrooms. As Sokikom's product manager, Jared listened to the needs of teachers, principals, and students and translated their user experiences into “stories” software engineers could develop into a product. Jared began his career in public education as a bilingual math and science teacher at the Next Step Public Charter School in Washington, DC. To learn more about how to improve learning at scale for all students, he earned his Ed.M. with a concentration in Mind, Brain, and Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Since that time, Jared also worked to improve educator effectiveness in the Boston Public Schools, most recently serving as the Director of Strategy & Communications in the Office of Human Capital. Jared received his A.B. from Washington University in St. Louis in Cognitive Neuroscience and Philosophy. In his spare time, he tries to fish, plays on a semi-pro lacrosse team, and see lots of movies - good and bad.
