Manager Applications Technical Support
Pacific Biosciences is a biotechnology company manufacturing systems for gene sequencing and real-time biological observations.
I am a bioinformatics scientist, broadly interested in functional genomics and next-generation sequencing technologies. I have an extensive career in industry as well as academia, and have published many high-impact papers and spoken widely on topics ranging from bioinformatics software, genome research, and access to personal genetic data. Pacific Biosciences: I was part of an elite team of technical scientists working in the "war room" to support the commercialization and launch of the first PacBio DNA sequencing instrument. I turned around several key accounts as manager of the Escalated Customer Account program, and demonstrated the power of long-read DNA sequencing in several publications, leading to new projects and instrument sales. Lawrence Berkeley National Lab: I directed RNA-sequencing research and production activities with the Drosophila transcriptome group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and successfully transitioned the laboratory infrastructure and analysis pipelines to handle the data deluge after acquisition of two Illumina GA II sequencing machines. I have analyzed over 3 billion reads profiling the life cycle of Drosophila Melanogaster, over 1 billion reads profiling cell lines, and over 44 million reads profiling the transcription start site of genes. Boston University: I earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University where my research on human promoter architecture led to securing $1.5 million in grant funding from the National Human Genome Research Institute. I was the recipient of the Quantitative Biology and Physiology Fellowship from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences and have taught thermodynamics and sequence analysis to biomedical engineering undergraduates.
