I am a Biochemical engineer working at the life science division of General Atomics. I began working on the redesign of an old troponin assay that had several problems that caused it to begin to fall behind competitors. After several months of working there I added several other scientists into my team. At one time I had as many as 5 other people working on my project. Several of them were only for training but the opportunity to lead a small design team helped to cultivate my abilities both as a scientist and as a team leader. Currently the project is near completion and I hope to see my assay make a positive difference in the lives of patients who will see an improvement in their medical care once this new generation of the troponin assay is released. As an undergraduate I worked in Professor Saleh’s lab at the University of California at Santa Barbara studying micro patterning of DNA on a surface. This research led me to studying micro structures and flow cells as well as DNA structure and surface binding. I managed to develop a procedure for micro patterning a surface with a protein and nucleating the growth of DNA hydrogels. I also used these micro fluidic flow cells to veiw and analyze the formation of these hydrogels in real time. In my senior design I took the position as team lead and organized our team to optimize function. I worked on overall process design and was in charge of big picture understanding, ensuring that each portion of the design came together and worked towards the overall goal as effectively as possible. I have extensive experience coding in MATLAB both for image processing and script writing. I do not have knowledge of other programming languages but my strong skills in coding lead me to believe I can quickly learn to code in other languages. I am very capable in data analysis using MATLAB software and mathematica software as well as using the Microsoft office suite to help visualize data.
