Usama has served in roles of Chief Executive, Chief Financial, Chief Business, Chief Strategy, and Chief Innovation Officer for public and private companies, and has held various board positions over time. Usama has a rich and complex personal and professional history. He grew up between Nigeria and Pakistan with his family and moved to the US at the age of 15. He did undergrad and some graduate work in the Washington DC area and spent the next 25 years living in dozens of cities and countries, reshaping companies and industries. He spent the first quarter of his career in telecoms and high-tech, initially building complex communication networks for the US Navy, and later building and launching “digital services” business for start-ups and large telecom providers in North America and Europe. He attended business school in Europe and subsequently moved into the healthcare industry, where he has primarily spent the last 20 years of his career in roles of increasing complexity and leadership. He has led large organizational transformations, has raised billions in capital, has deployed billions in capital, has conducted the largest M&A and partnership transactions in the industry, and has created, built, and scaled numerous businesses over time, businesses that have become pillars of the modern world, and businesses that have saved countless lives. Usama has also remained active in the non-profit and civil society sectors over the last 30 years providing leadership and strategic advise, raising millions of dollars, and launching new initiatives across health, wellness, women's and children's rights and advancement, disaster relief, and refugee services, among others. Usama is deeply committed to helping leaders, organizations, and institutions build resilient 21st century business and operating models that align purpose, people, the planet, and non-zero-sum profits.
