I've spent most of my career engaged in improving business practices as a designer/project manager, responsible for implementing new systems and processes. In the mid 1980/s I began my career as a project manager on the 8300 Mopac project in Austin Texas. My company relocated me from Houston to Austin, gave me a 4" green screen Compaq with two floppy drives, Lotus 123 and PFS write on floppy disk. I was told the profits were tight, don't loose money and we'll see you in 12 months. It was trial by fire. Fast forward to 1990, I had an opportunity to introduce Computer Aided Drafting to MH Technologies. With a donated college text book, a 386 processor and AutoCAD 11, I began producing installation drawings while teaching myself AutoCAD. The MHT CAD Department was born. CAD was a home run for our British Petroleum project and for our company. From that first project at BP Plaza in Houston, CAD departments would eventually be created in multiple Facility Solution Group divisions. In 2004 I joined Facility Solutions Group (then Design Electric) in Houston TX. Once again I was given an opportunity to contribute to the company’s development. With construction projects bleeding, I offered a production tracking solution to help monitor and control the large labor risks that threatened our projects. The system was named PATS. It stands for production analysis tracking system. PATS was adopted, further developed and is still in use today. PATS has been indirectly credited for contributing to a now successful construction segment of our great company. From that first system, many other systems were born. Looking back on my life, I feel a sense of pride in the contributions I've been able to make. There is much satisfaction in knowing that one made a difference. I know I made a difference.
