As the leader of Fidelity Investments’ Workplace Investing, my team and I lead the work to provide retirement solutions and benefit programs for millions of Americans. We work closely with thousands of companies to design and implement efficient workplace benefit programs, which includes 401(k) and pension plans. I take the responsibility of representing the Fidelity brand very seriously and the trust, integrity, and relentless focus on customer service that I feel it represents. In leading the amazing people in my organization, I try to demonstrate several behaviors: • Look for terrific, self-motivated people committed to doing the right thing and who naturally thrive in a team environment. • Be transparent, authentic, and consistent. • Check the ego at the door. It is all about “we” and “the customer”—“me” is always secondary. • Show some empathy, for our customers, our teammates, and our business partners. • Dream big but execute small. Perseverance and focus on getting the details right enable the big possibilities. I am very glad to have spent the first part of my career in the consumer products industry. There I learned the discipline of unrelenting focus on the consumer experience, which is still a new thing for many financial service providers.
