Technology has delighted and challenged me since the days of Castle Wolfenstein and CompuServe. While I was an undergraduate at Clark University, I observed the development of a raster based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and learned the real world impact of this technology to problems like drought monitoring for the United Nations. My experience with GIS and computer cartography led to a love for programming software and systems that help people make impactful decisions with data. While at SDI Health, I applied my mapping experience to web sites including Pollen.com while also programming UI improvements. Next, I applied these skills to developing business intelligence (BI) dashboards for clients like Pfizer, Publicis, and Merck. These BI solutions used large amounts of longitudinal patient data stored in relational data models running on Oracle and SQL Server. Clients such as these often present with challenges in integrating business requirements and technology. My experience with and relationships within both the business and technology branches at SDI was invaluable when the company was acquired by IMS, now QuintilesIMS, and there was the need to work with even larger and more varied data sources, organizations, and technology platforms. Today as a Technical Architect within QuintileIMS (QI) I apply my wide variety of software development, infrastructure, business analysis, and leadership experiences to ensuring the success of company acquisitions and internal investment projects for the Real World Insights technology team. Most recently I'm focusing on ensuring the successful integration and deployment of Privacy Analytics (PA) technology and services at QI. These market leading privacy technologies and services are transforming how organizations meet the strict privacy requirements of regulated data in healthcare and other industries using open source analytical technologies like Spark.
