A C-Suite executive in the transportation sector, he led an organization of 32,000 employees through turnaround/growth cycles & has a proven success record in driving strategic business transformation, leading through turnarounds, crisis managment/business reorganizations, and implementing internal executive succession. James’ board experience includes serving as Board Member for SkyWest Inc, Schneider, Inc, and Stericycle, Inc. Previous boards on which he served include YRCW, Dynamex, Spirit Aerosystems, Roadrunner Transportation, the National Association of Manufacturers and the American Trucking Association. James announced his retirement effective July 2018 as CEO of YRC Worldwide. Recruited by YRCW to return as CEO in 2011, he created an operational/financial transformation that brought the firm back to profitability, changed its trajectory, and paved the way for investment in technology/equipment. During his CEO tenure at YRCW, James created/executed a turnaround plan, decentralized operations & re-focused on customer service/safety. He resumed capital spending and implemented internal executive succession for top leadership positions. Before re-joining YRCW, James served as President & CEO at Dynamex and as Consultant at Goldman Sachs Special Situations Group. He started his career at YRCW in 1978, and his last role there was President & CEO, Yellow Transportation. James has a B.S. from West Texas A&M, completed executive programs at Yale & Arizona State & earned professional/industry honors.
