I’ve been fortunate to serve in many Information Technology roles at Virginia Tech, supporting faculty, staff, students, and university partners in the growing National Capital Region. From the new state-of-the-art Virginia Tech Research Center – Arlington (VTRC-A), located in the heart of research and innovation in Ballston, I lead an Information Technology team with a diverse service catalog. The high technology brand of Virginia Tech is well represented in the National Capital Region. Some of the technology infrastructure highlights include a 20 foot Cyviz 3D visualization wall, nearly 20 high definition video conference codecs for meeting and collaboration, 10Gb network connectivity to leading research networks, and a professional datacenter with dedicated chiller and generator facilities. Major accomplishments include: • Providing technology recommendations for the outfit of the VTRC-A. • Opening of the VTRC-A and 1021, 901, and 601 Prince Street sites. • Staffing, training, and leading a new regional IT team. • Expanding the service catalog to include instructional, audio-visual, and streaming services. • Delivering IPv6 to the desktop and virtualization services. • Providing guidance and recommendations for social media and marketing efforts. • Providing technology recommendations and support for the successful launch of the university’s two executive programs, the Executive Masters of Business Administration (EMBA) and Executive Master of Natural Resources (XMNR). • Representing the NCR on a variety of committees and task forces, including Distance Learning task force, the Virginia Tech Information Technology Council, and several web / media strategy groups.
