Carolyn Stennett is regarded as a skilled lawyer and experienced senior executive in the non-profit, private, and government sectors. Ms. Stennett is currently the Deputy Director and General Counsel for the National Head Start Association (NHSA), where she has responsibility for the legal affairs and managing the day-to-day operations, including the financial, personnel, and programs. NHSA is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization which advocates for more than 1 million children, 200,000 staff and 1,600 Head Start grantees in the United States. Prior to NHSA, Ms. Stennett held the position of Chief Operating Officer for the District of Columbia’s juvenile justice agency, the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services. In this role, she had oversight of a $90M budget and a 600-member staff across five facilities. Ms. Stennett spent 10 plus years at United Technologies Corporation (UTC), a Fortune 50 global manufacturer of high technology products for the aerospace, building and security systems industries. She served as Assistant General Counsel responsible for the development and implementation of the legal strategies for the corporation’s merger, acquisition and divestiture activities in North America. She also served as Interim Legal Director for the corporation’s Europe, Middle East and Africa Operations in Paris, France. Ms. Stennett has a long history of community and non-profit engagement, including board service with the Women’s Bar Association Foundation of the District of Columbia, Goodwill Greater Washington, and Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind. Ms. Stennett was named one of the region’s brightest young business leaders by the Central New York Business Journal and inducted into the YWCA-NYC Academy of Women Achievers. Ms. Stennett is a member of Leadership Greater Washington.
