Jeff C. Herring, J.D., M.B.A., S.P.H.R. Jeff is the Chief Human Resource Officer at the University of Utah. As one of the largest employer within the State, there are many new and exciting challenges that are encountered on a daily basis. Jeff views HR as a process that involves every member of the organization and is working diligently to infuse this philosophy throughout the University's dedicated workforce. Jeff’s primary focus in directing the HR process is for him and his staff to become strategic consultants on the HR process and increasing managers’ capacity to manage. Jeff loves the challenges associated with organizational development and tapping the maximum potential of an organization. Jeff received his Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law and his M.B.A. from University of Phoenix with an emphasis on human resource management. Jeff is also certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resource Management. He completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Utah where he received a B.A. in History. He is still actively engaged in the educational process by serving as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Utah teaching HR in the executive MPA program. Jeff has previously worked in the private sector as an attorney where he focused on labor and employment law. Some of Jeff’s other positions have been as Executive Director/Cabinet Member, In-house Counsel and Deputy Director of the Utah Department of Human Resource Management, the state of Utah's largest employer. Jeff loves living in Utah with his family and has numerous passions. Some of them are his public service, his time spent with his family and his alma mater of the University of Utah. Jeff feels that passion for anything must start from within and loves to share his energy with anyone willing to listen.
