Unchained Labs is a biotechnology research center that specializes in biologics characterization tools and biologics stability tools.

I was part of the founding team at Unchained Labs in January 2015, building a $75M+, profitable business before selling it to The Carlyle Group in May 2021 for $435M (>7x trailing revenues). I led the finance, accounting and all administrative functions, and was on the front line of fundraising, acquisitions and integration. We raised over $85M of venture capital and $50M of commercial and venture debt. I also established and led the manufacturing and customer care functions when the company was founded in 2015, as its Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Unchained Labs, I was the CFO and VP of Operations at ProteinSimple, helping raise $60M as we acquired four businesses and built a $60M+, profitable life sciences tools company over a six year period. After the SEC cleared our S-1, and just days away from our road show, we agreed to sell the business to Bio-Techne in July 2014 for $300M. Prior to joining ProteinSimple, I was VP of Finance at Nektar Therapeutics. Earlier in my career, I spent nearly seven years in various senior financial leadership roles at Molecular Devices, responsible for the worldwide accounting, finance and treasury functions, and I played a key role in the execution and integration of its corporate development activities. I began my career with Ernst & Young, based in San Francisco, California, and I hold a B.S. in Business Administration from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where I was also a pitcher for Cal Poly's D1 baseball program, and am a CPA (inactive). My wife Erin and I have two kids, and when I'm not coaching their teams, you can find me hacking away on the golf course or cheering on the SF Giants and 49ers, as well as supporting the Cal Poly Baseball program.
