Have been in higher education for 29 years including professor positions at Texas Woman's University, University of Nebraska-Omaha, Auburn, Penn State, Missouri-Columbia where I served as Dept. Head for Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis and upper level leadership as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Missouri System and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the Tennessee Board of Regents. Now serving as Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for the University of Houston System and Senior Vice President and Provost for the University of Houston. Served as President of UCEA, NCPEA, and SRCEA. Received the Jack Culbertson Award from UCEA in 1993, the Jack Greer Career Achievement Award from SRCEA, and the Paul A. Elsner International Excellence in Leadership Award in 2009 from the Chair Academy. Implemented a number of innovative programs including the redesign of teacher education, the Academic Audit, redesign of developmental education, leadership training for department chairs (Regents Academic Leadership Institute), and dual admissions. Received grant funding for my work totally over $2.4 million and have mentored and graduated 23 doctoral students. Am an invited member of the Aspen Institute on the Future of Higher Education which meets annually in Aspen, CO. Have received both the Outstanding Alumni Award and Career Achievement Award from UNC-G where I did my undergraduate work. Just selected as a Fulbright Specialist. In November, 2013, received The Master Professor Award from the University Council for Educational Administration. Specialties: higher education leadership, large-scale systemtic organizational change, organizational development, continuous quality improvement, faculty development (particularly faculty new to the academy), qualitative and quantitative research, and organizational empowerment/justice.
