Tech Coast Angels is one of the largest and most active groups of angel investors in the United States. The group has invested nearly $40 million in 51 Southern California companies (coupled with $410 million from co-investors) in the 50 months since its founding in 1997. The network of members is comprised of more than 220 individual investors in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego. Members mentor and coach the entrepreneurs they fund, serve on their boards, provide contacts and assist with team building, strategic planning and fundraising.

During my career I've been an individual contributor, manager and executive with responsibilities encompassing systems analysis, software design and architecture, software development, and IT operations. My primary focus has been on information management, including information modeling, data management, database management systems, metadata, big data analytics and semantic technology (including artificial intelligence, knowledge representation/ontology, machine learning, cognitive computing and intelligent software agents). I've led the development of data management and semantic technology products, as well as associated enterprise transactional processing platforms and web and mobile-based applications. I am currently the founder and principal of a consulting practice called N2Semantics. I also serve as an advisor to Primal. Prior to that I worked for Primal as their VP of Development and IT Operations leading development of their AI-based intelligent content assistant through initial product launch, and later as a Technology Evangelist and Strategy Advisor. I also previously worked with another startup, Maana, incubating their enterprise semantic search product. Before that I spent several years in senior leadership roles at Unisys Corporation in the areas of cloud computing, enterprise Java and open source runtime environments, data management technologies and metadata repositories. Through N2Semantics I combine my expertise and interest in semantic technologies with my experiences at Primal, Maana and inside Unisys doing technology incubation and business startups. I am also proud to have served as a charter member of the Unisys North American Diversity Council where I led the development of the diversity/inclusion training curriculum for all Unisys management in the U.S. and Canada, and a version for all U.S. and Canadian employees. I believe strongly that a diverse and empowered workforce fosters creativity, innovation and true collaboration.
