For most of the last 40 years I have had the privilege to work at the intersection of technology, marketing and content distribution. In senior positions in the home video, music, video game, and the nascent internet streaming industry, I recruited and led teams that helped build businesses for Warner Bros., Columbia Pictures, Nelson Entertainment, Capitol-EMI Music, and Virgin. I provided business development and marketing consulting services for many years, and am currently winding down an 8 year stint in the educational tutoring industry as one of the largest operators within the Sylvan Learning franchisee system. Education – Purchased 6 Sylvan Learning Center franchises in Los Angeles grew the business to become the 3rd largest franchisee nationally. Was the only Sylvan Learning operator to have four centers achieve revenues greater than $700,000 in 2017. E-commerce – Built successful broadcast e-commerce business for leading talk radio shows from Salem Communications and Talk Radio Network, including hosts Bill O’Reilly, Laura Ingraham, Michael Medved and Bill Bennett, featuring premium membership subscriptions and host-branded merchandise. Digital Content Innovation – As CEO of Internet start-up FirstLook Inc., partnered with all major music, movie and video game distributors to build leading entertainment previewing portal. Launched MediaBlue Nox, a pioneering broadcast e-commerce company operating websites featuring streaming video and audio podcasts for leading talk radio syndicators Salem Communications and Talk Radio Network. Marketing Innovation – Pioneered the distribution of concerts on videocassette, created music industry’s first company-centric trade publication targeting in-store personnel, introduced first flat-rate pricing model in the internet media syndication business. Deal Making – Raised $36 million in venture capital investment for internet start-up FirstLook Inc. and later sold the company. Acquired video rights to movies and film libraries while at Embassy Home Entertainment and Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment. Licensed out distribution rights to various licensees while at Nelson Entertainment and Virgin Interactive. P&L – Full P&L responsibility for 2 tech start-ups, FirstLook and MediaBlue Nox, and divisional P&Ls at Virgin Interactive and Nelson Entertainment.
