As the Chief Information Officer, I ensure we provide best-in-class technology for our entire integrated healthcare system, including five academic hospitals and The Ohio State University College of Medicine. It’s a fantastic job—one that allows me to use my skills to help people with a basic concern we all share: our health. The technology that supports a cutting-edge research institution is pervasive, even when it’s out of sight. The challenge when faced with so many new technology options is to find the most effective solutions that allow clinicians to deliver the highest-quality care here at the medical center and help our researchers make discoveries that improve the lives of patients everywhere. I believe leaders identify the right course to take and then set their teams up for success. I do this by prioritizing the challenges my team needs to address and then working to remove any barriers in their way. A typical day for me is spent meeting with people, and it’s an especially great day when I can provide the solutions that prepare the clinicians of tomorrow to help care for patients. It’s all the more meaningful that I can live out my passion at this university. Much of my family was born at this hospital, my degrees are from Ohio State and now I’ve been able to spend my career bringing a caring Buckeye spirit to patients in our community—both those in Ohio and the many people coming from around the world to seek care. My sense of belonging in the community carries over outside of work as well. One of my favorite activities is riding Pelotonia each year, which keeps me on my bike training and raises money for cancer research. I’m also an active church member and congregational leader.
