David is the founder, President and CEO of Nuvation Bio, a next-generation biotech company currently in stealth mode. Prior to Nuvation Bio, David founded Medivation in 2003, raising a total of only $440MM in public offerings over the life of the company to reach a market cap of more than $14B, providing investors with a ROI of nearly 21,000%. In 2016, Medivation was sold to Pfizer for $14.3B in an all-cash deal, one of the largest biopharma sales ever by a founding CEO. For his role in creating Medivation, David was named the Life Sciences category winner and Overall US winner across all categories of the 2014 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. David identified, in-licensed, and led bench-to-bedside development of enzalutamide (XTANDI®) for advanced prostate cancer. At Medivation, XTANDI was taken from first in vitro laboratory experiment to FDA approval in seven years, one of the fastest development timelines in pharmaceutical history. XTANDI, approved in 60+ countries, reached blockbuster drug status exceeding $2B in global annual sales in 2015. In addition, at Medivation David also identified, in-licensed and developed a potentially best-in-class PARP inhibitor talazoparib, which in October 2018 also received FDA-approval and an immune-oncology agent pidilizumab (which has generated compelling phase 2 data), as well as other assets in areas of significant unmet medical need. Previously, David was President & Chief Executive Officer of Pro•Duct Health, Inc., a venture-backed startup medical device company founded in 1998 that developed, manufactured, and commercialized a breast microcatheter -- which he himself invented -- for breast cancer risk assessment. After raising a total of $22MM in venture capital, Pro•Duct Health was acquired in 2001 for $168MM by Cytyc Corporation. David's career began as an academic basic scientist/hematologist-oncologist.
