Aleksandar Mandic was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1954 to a family of Serbian immigrants.In 1972 he started his professional career at Siemens SA, where he became a leader in the area of industrial automation.In 1990, Aleksandar left Siemens to start his own business: MANDIC BBS (Bulletin Board System) a rudimentary predecessor of today’s Internet.With the advent of Internet, MANDIC BBS evolved into MANDIC INTERNET; boosted by GP Investimento it become one of Brazil’s Internet giants. MANDIC INTERNET would later be considered a case without precedents in the history of Brazilian’s digital world and its story was immortalized by the Harvard Business School in a business case. MANDIC INTERNET obtained the IBEST award as the best Brazilian provider in 97/98 and 98/99. In 1999, Aleksandar sold MANDIC INTERNET to Grupo Impsat and was the recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the year award. In January 2000, Aleksandar Mandic cofounded a new Internet Service Provider called iG (Internet Group) in which he remained as a VP until September 2001.Striving to start his own business again, Aleksandar reopened MANDIC in January 2002, this time with a focus on providing premium e-mail hosting and services. Rebranded as mandic:mail, the new firm rapidly stood out thanks to bleeding edge innovations for the time such as unlimited storage space, double anti-spam, certified email etc..In March 2012, MANDIC was acquired by Riverwood Capital. Aleksandar still remained associated to MANDIC as a member of the board.Nowadays, Aleksandar is fully devoted to his third start-up: Mandic magiC www.mandicmagic.com – a social WiFi finder App, which became the most downloaded App in Brazil only 20 days after its release. Mandic magiC currently has over 10 Million registered users (abr/2015) and is rapidly growing.
