Brighter Horizon will serve as a critical resource to assist first-generation students and their families throughout the various stages of the high school-to-college transition process. Current frameworks for this transition prioritize institutional rhetoric and procedures, placing first-generation students and families unfamiliar with the requirements and expectations of the college admission process at a significant disadvantage—often further compounded by racial and socioeconomic challenges. Brighter Horizon, thus, will respond to this need for services supporting students as they navigate the college process.
