Hughes is the world's leading provider of broadband satellite services, products, and managed network solutions.

Working as technical lead and contributor on the HughesNet Gen4 product specifically related to fast Internet browsing over satellite-based internet connectivity. All of us on our team are pretty passionate about automate everything, unit testing, code craftsmanship, continuous integration, and life-cycle maintainability of our heterogeneous code base of Java, C/C++, Python, Javascript, and Ruby. I strive to help focus our efforts on quality code and innovative approaches to solving technical challenges in an ever-evolving, Internet environment. We practice a mix of Scrum/Kanban style project management. I have also bore the roles of scrum master, product owner, and project manager in earlier phases of our product life cycle. I love seeing teams adapt and adopt new development practices and hope to help influence migrations in how we and other teams do SCM and testing as well trying to move more in the direction of continuous deployment. After doing all that for the last 20 years or so, I have now taken on a new role as a Big Data Architect where I am responsible for working on a solution to our burgeoning data needs. This role will involve understanding the business needs of our users and analysts and then designing, building, deploying, and operating a big data architecture that will support these needs. Would love to bring real-time streaming typologies into play to move towards more "real-time"​ exposure to our performance data. Exploring a hybrid design that marries Hadoop technologies and Oracle/MongoDB to provide large capacity storage and low latency access to essential data sets. This roles allows me to fulfill my years long desire to work in big data and still be able to keep my hands in the code building data pipelines in Java, Scala, and Python. A huge challenge with huge rewards. I'm up for it!
