DC-Net Business Unit Team Lead
Department of Behavioral Health is providing prevention, intervention, and treatment services and supports.
I’ve worked for the District of Columbia for over twelve years for the Office of the Chief Technology Officer. Throughout my time here I’ve been a constant learner and dedicated worker who has continually transitioned to new roles within the organization every few years that require new skill sets and have broadened my responsibilities and my impact on the organization. While finishing my networking centric education and transitioning from technician/engineer to project management I had the opportunity to be lead sales engineer on the District of Columbia’s $25 million federal BTOP initiative. Focusing on the health and education sector, I was tasked with bridging the digital divide in underserved areas by signing nonprofits to the program, bringing them fiber based Internet, transport, VoIP and WiFi services. The project was hugely rewarding, socially in being able to give something to the community, and as a challenging and exciting career opportunity. The District of Columbia’s BTOP program, DC-CAN, was successful in meeting the criteria and goals set for by NTIA (National Telecommunication and Information Administration) by becoming a self-sustaining entity with $1.5 in annual revenue based off of the customer contracts I brought into the program. Post BTOP and based off of my performance new opportunities opened up and I am now the Team Lead for the Business Unit with ten project managers working for me. We interface with over seventy District agencies for all of their Internet, data transport, VoIP, WiFi and data center needs. This includes major agencies such as the Metropolitan Police Department, Fire and Emergency Services as well as the DC Public School system. The Masters of Science in IT Project Management is the right fit for me at this time in my life and career and I have applied and expect to be accepted to Purdue University and begin the program this fall with a projected completion date of spring 2018.
