Fully qualified senior economist with a focus on finding practical, operational solutions to difficult development challenges as a project team leader, program manager, adviser and public speaker. During my 25-year career as staff and consultant with major international development organizations, I have led tasks on environmental economics, rural development, community development, local governance, civil society engagement, social protection and disaster risk management – all towards a common objective of improving the lives and livelihoods of poor families and communities in developing countries. Used to working under pressure to deliver big projects to tight deadlines. Collegial and empowering leader who encourages team members to take responsibility and gives them the space to get the job done. Prepared and supervised projects of different sizes, from multi-million dollar loans to smaller grants for research and technical assistance in the Pacific, East Asia, and Africa. Very comfortable as a public speaker, with many roles as panelist, moderator and facilitator at seminars and conferences. I have prepared a university syllabus in agricultural economics and rural development and taught one of the early cohorts of multi-racial students at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. A keen 10K runner, confessed gadget geek, avid listener of BBC podcasts, and enthusiastic cook of spicy curries when I have the chance.
