Peter Tonge obtained his B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in biochemistry at the University of Birmingham and then moved to the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) in 1986 as a NATO-SERC postdoctoral fellow. After spells at NRC as a Research Associate and a Research Officer, followed by an appointment as a Staff Investigator at The Picower Institute for Medical Research, he joined the faculty at Stony Brook University in 1996 where he is currently a full Professor in the Department of Chemistry. He is also a Professor in the Department of Radiology (by courtesy) and Associate Editor for the American Chemical Society journal ACS Infectious Diseases. Peter Tonge is currently the Co-Director of the NIH-funded Chemical Biology Training Program and Director of the Biomolecular Imaging Cluster. In addition he is Director of Infectious Diseases Research in the Institute for Chemical Biology & Drug Discovery (ICB&DD), and Director of the Translational Experimental Therapeutics Lab. Peter Tonge Co-founded Chronus Pharmaceuticals Inc in 2014 with Stew Fisher. The mission of Chronus Pharmaceuticals, Inc is to deliver superior drug candidates through two proprietary platforms: Quantitative pharmacodynamic models that incorporate slow binding parameters and a novel Substrate-Assisted Tethered Inhibition strategy to identify potent, time-dependent antibacterial leads.
