Dr. Jon K. Hayashida is a graduate of the Southern California College of Optometry, a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a Diplomate in its Cornea and Contact Lens and Refractive Technologies Section. He currently serves as the Vice President of Global Clinical and Medical Affairs for STAAR Surgical in Monrovia, California. Dr. Hayashida’s professional career includes experience in corporate eye care, ophthalmic start-up companies, direct patient care and leadership in a vision related nonprofit. Most recently, he has served as Vice President, Programs and Services for the Braille Institute of America. As well he has served as Vice President of Global Clinical and Medical Affairs for Bausch and Lomb, Surgical, where he gained multiple FDA approvals and a PMA approval for the Trulign Toric IOL. Additionally, he served as Vice President of Global Clinical Affairs and Domestic Professional Relations for Cooper Vision, Inc. and as a Senior Research Optometrist for Allergan, Inc. With regard to ophthalmic start-up experience, he has served as Vice President, Clinical Affairs for Wavetec Vision (Intraoperative Wavefront Aberrometer), Transcend Medical (Glaucoma Implantable Device), Calhoun Vision (Light-Adjustable IOL) and Refractec, Inc. (Conductive Keratoplasty) where he gained two FDA-PMA approvals. With regard to direct patient care, Dr. Hayashida was the managing partner in private practice and has served as a clinical care specialist at the UCLA Laser Refractive Center, Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA School of Medicine. He has also served as an expert examiner for the California State Board of Optometry and National Board of Examiners in Optometry and as an Assistant Professor of the Adjunct Faculty of the Southern California College of Optometry.
