Snapology

Snapology was created by two sisters, Lisa and Laura Coe, who observed the love their children had for creative play using building blocks and other materials that snap together. The idea of offering enrichment classes and camps to teach science, mathematics, technology and literacy concepts excited them given both of their backgrounds in mathematics and science. Laura Coe holds a BS in Mathematics from Pennsylvania State University. She has been employed as an Actuary (pronounced 'math geek') in the healthcare industry for the past 20 years. Laura has a broad background in mathematics, statistics and finance. Laura is also an active member in the South Fayette Elementary School PTA and is the mother of two wonderful young boys. Lisa Coe holds a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh. She has been employed as Pharmacist and Consultant in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry for the past 23 years. Lisa has extensive experience in sales, marketing and strategic business management. She is blessed to be the mother of a beatiful little boy.

Bio

Snapology’s mission is to provide educational play to children using LEGO® bricks, K’Nex, computers and other interactive mediums. Our passion is providing programs to children of all abilities, including gifted children and those with extra needs. Snapology was born in 2010 when I was looking for programs for my 5 and 6 year olds sons. I found limited options in our area that didn’t involved sports. Recognizing my boys’ love of LEGO® bricks and their inherent educational value, I approached Lisa, my sister, with the idea of starting a business to provide educational (but fun) activities for children. Lisa and I are sisters, but more importantly, best friends. We both embraced the idea of starting a business together and began to develop the concept by offering robotics classes, birthday parties and scouting workshops in the Pittsburgh area. The concept expanded rapidly and we quickly realized that we had discovered a successful business model that could be replicated throughout the country. What lead up to us to start our own business? Our parents were entrepreneurs and instilled a solid work ethic in my brother, sister and I when we were young. My parents started their own business when I was 12 years old and, after working in their business for years, I knew I wanted to own my own business someday. It just took me a while to figure out what the right business venture for me was. Snapology is actually my third business venture. My heart wasn’t in the first 2 businesses (unrelated to children or education). When I started my third business, Snapology, I knew it was the right fit. The pivotal moment was early on when I realized how I was able to involve my own children in the business while also helping all kinds of other children. It became a passion. I fell in love with the business concept and everything has followed from that.
