Chris Husbands is an educationist, academic, university leader and public servant. He is currently Vice Chancellor at Sheffield Hallam University - one of the UK's largest universities, with an outstanding track record in widening opportunities. Previously he was Professor of Education Policy and Director of the Institute of Education, University College, London, and Vice Provost (Academic Development and London). Under his leadership, IOE was rated first in the world in by QS for three successive years from 2014 and won the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher Education in 2015. Chris has held senior leadership positions in four UK universities, and visiting appointments internationally: he has taught or led consultancy programmes on four continents and is a sought after international speaker. He is committed to research and development which improves outcomes and life chances for children and young people around the world. His research on education policy, teaching and curriculum has attracted over £5million in external funding and has been disseminated through over400 publications including 12 books and 50 papers as well as journalism and presentations around the world. Chris's public service includes membership of the Academies Commission, the Commission on a Royal College of Teaching and, as chair, the independent Skills TaskForce as well as a series of non-executive board appointments, including the UK's Higher Education Statistics Agency. He has undertaken consultancy in Singapore, Russia, the UAE, China, and Norway; he is Visiting Professor at East China Normal University, an Honorary Fellow of Emmanuel College Cambridge, and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.
