The E.W. Scripps Company serves audiences and businesses through a growing portfolio of media brands.
Mark Greenblatt is the senior national investigative correspondent for the Scripps Washington Bureau, where he is a multi-platform reporter appearing on television, podcasts and writing for all digital platforms. Mark is the lead reporter for the investigative podcast Verified: The Next Threat (www.verifiedpod.com ) which is a six-episode deep dive on the rise of globally connected white supremacists. The podcast series, which Amazon Music included among its "Best podcasts" in a weekly highlight reel, unpacks a network that seeks to unite the world's Christian white nationalists for a modern day crusade. Mark was also the co-lead reporter on the series Case Cleared, a joint investigation with Reveal and ProPublica that revealed for the first time how dozens of police agencies are falsely inflating the numbers of how many rapes they actually solve. Many of the agencies were found to "clear" sexual assault cases even though the cases were closed without arrest in large numbers, leaving suspects on the streets to sometimes strike again. The series led to sweeping reforms at the federal and local levels and earned multiple national journalism awards. Mark's work at Scripps also led to the criminal indictment of the chief of staff at a V.A. hospital, and he additionally brought the Scripps Washington Bureau its first ever Peabody award, which was Mark's third. He also earned the bureau's first national Emmy award nomination. He is a recipient of the IRE Medal, the IRE Award, multiple national Edward R. Murrow awards, the Livingston Award, the dupont-Columbia Award, a national Emmy for investigative reporting and he is a two-time finalist for Harvard’s Goldsmith Prize for investigative reporting. His reports exposed dangerous failures in the Pentagon’s sex offender reporting practices that put civilians at risk and led directly to Congress and President Obama closing the loophole. Mark serves on the Advisory Board for the Washington D.C. based Fund For Investigative Journalism (where he was a past President of the Board) and he graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism, where he was the student president. He previously worked at ABC News and KHOU-TV (CBS Houston).
