Safeway, Inc. is an American supermarket chain founded in 1915. It is a subsidiary of Albertsons, having been acquired by private equity investors led by Cerberus Capital Management

Chuck has over 30 years of food industry experience covering virtually all elements of the food sector including Retailing, CPG manufacturer and private label marketing. During his career he was Grocery Merchandising Manager for Safeway’s flagship division in Northern California and was responsible for all buying, pricing and promotion. Following a 22 year career at Safeway, Chuck left to become Chief Operating Officer/EVP Sales and Marketing for a national private label marketing firm. In 1993 Chuck joined Del Monte Foods to develop its first retail focused category management process which has earned the, Best in Class, award by Supermarket Business seven years running. While at Del Monte he also lead the efforts to migrate from multiple food broker representation to a single broker focus. Additionally, as Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, he lead the very first integration process of several acquisitions by Del Monte Foods which included Contadina, 9 Lives, Star Kist and numerous other national brands. In his current role as, Director, Strategic Global Sourcing at Safeway’s Pleasanton headquarters he is responsible for coordinating the efforts of all business units with Safeway Asian office in Hong Kong. Chuck also has earned a lifetime teaching credential from the State of California where he has taught, Marketing, Distribution and Business Management in several Northern California Community Colleges. Chuck’s unique and expansive marketing background has equipped him for leading large cross-functional efforts in diverse disciplines.
