I have the kind of adventuresome mind that loves to integrate vastly different fields and ideas. Since I was a child, my quest has been to develop into a kind of Renaissance woman, and make meaningful contributions in different areas -- arts and sciences, business and technology, politics and the environment. At Stanford, I majored in Symbolic Systems, a multi-disciplinary major that combines CS, Philosophy, Neuroscience, and Linguistics. I minored in math. My strongest areas within CS are algorithms, AI, and machine learning. Some highlights of my career so far: I served in the White House, National Economic Council, as a special assistant to the Director. I spent five years developing consumer products at Google, where I launched iGoogle, a personalized homepage (now retired), and led optimizations to Google's search ads display that increased revenue by 12%. In 2007, I was featured in Fast Company Magazine as one of Google's Top 12 Innovators, and am the co-owner of 5 different patents in consumer technology design. In 2012, I served as an industry advisor and lecturer at the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Michigan. I am equally fascinated by nature, and am currently an instructor at the Boulder Outdoor Survival School, the most intensive civilian survival training program in the world. I teach 7-day, 14-day, and 28-day courses in wilderness bushcraft with a knife, blanket, and poncho. I believe living close the land for periods of time can bring about improvements in creative thinking, emotional wellbeing, and tends to focus people on solving deeper problems than building the next pizza delivery app. I also believe our culture has gone too far in severing ourselves from the natural world, and am interested in innovative approaches to solving this problem. For the past several years, I have been trying my hand at writing, and hope to have my first book under contract soon.
