I work with computational methods in biophysics and visualization of scientific data. I am also an active developer for using Mixed Reality (Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality) to present scientific data in novel ways. In 2017, I published my application "Titan MR" to the Windows Application Store. This application is a way to view the latest data from the Cassini space mission, and Saturn's moon Titan. In the Mixed Reality experience, users get to fly over the surface of the moon and explore the geometry as if looking out a portal. This experience was a finalist in the Unity HoloLens competition, and a nominee for the Microsoft Reality Mixer award in 2018 (see links for more information). At DNASTAR, Inc., I lead the development of software tools for predicting antibody heavy and light chain structures. I also work on the desktop software Protean3D for visualizing molecular structures. My doctoral research was focused on oral pathogens that are causative agents of dental decay and endocarditis. Using X-ray crystallography I determined the molecular structures of the AgI/II protein (a key adhesin used to bind bacteria to teeth). Post-doctoral projects investigated food and waterborne diseases caused by enteropathogenic E. coli. I enjoy software development and have used multiple programming languages including Java, C++, C# and Python. I am interested in projects for the unique and novel displays of scientific information or data. In addition to software, I have also worked as a research scientist where I have solved protein structures using X-ray crystallography that give insight into the basic mechanisms of bacterial adhesion to host tissues. I have used techniques such as the AKTA FPLC, biolayer interferometry, surface plasmon resonance, isothermal titration calorimetry, analytical ultracentrifugation, ELISA, WB, and various cell culturing including E. coli, Pichia Pastoris, and other systems.
