The path I traveled to become a software developer was not a traditional one. I began my educational journey by completing a degree in psychology and linguistics, while taking a handful of computer science courses that caught my attention. Oddly enough, I discovered my current interests in pragmatic software development while working towards a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology. During that time, I accepted an offer to work in the IT industry as a quality assurance analyst testing applications as I realized that I was becoming increasingly interested in software development. Testing applications for four years whet my appetite for learning more about computer science and, eventually, segued into a return to Academia where I completed a degree in the subject. I now have been developing applications professionally for one and a half years, drawing heavily on my background in psychological research methods, linguistics, and my experiences testing applications. I feel that my background has allowed me to offer a fresh perspective in a team-based environment as I have championed somewhat radical, successful practices for software development at my current position where I am taking a leadership role. These new practices that I feel so passionate about include test-driven-development, pair- programming, and scrum/agile project management. These days, I am primarily interested in web & mobile solutions, user modeling & intelligent agents, and usability.
