Senior Manager Information Security

Harris Teeter, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ruddick Corporation, is a food market chain that operates in the six-state area of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida. Ruddick Corporation is traded on the NY Stock Exchange at RDK. In addition to our 168 retail stores, we also operate grocery, frozen food, and perishable distribution centers in Greensboro and Indian Trail, NC, as well as the Hunter Farms milk and ice cream facility in High Point, NC. We are headquartered in Matthews, NC and currently have approximately 20,000 employees.

I started programming, installing, configuring, and supporting point of sale systems in 1992. The systems were in restaurants, convenience stores, general retail, and supermarkets. I soon began to specialize in the supermarket area with NCR and IBM systems, eventually focusing on programming in the IBM Supermarket Application. I did this work for a few years with a couple of companies serving multiple grocery chains. In 1995, I came to Harris Teeter where I started as a POS Analyst/Programmer. My work there evolved into other programming and operating systems (Visual Basic, ASP, Unix, Windows, etc). I then became an Oracle DBA at Harris Teeter, supporting and administering all the company's Oracle databases as part of a 2 to 3 person DBA team. This lead me to become Manager of the DBAs, including our SQL Server team. Once again this role evolved and I became Manager of DBAs, Enterprise Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, and Enterprise Architecture. My interest in Information Security drove me to earn the CISSP certification and I then moved into my current position as Senior Manager of Information Security.
