In 1834, a branch of the Second State Bank of Indiana - the earliest ancestor of First Financial Bank - opened to serve the people who had settled in Vigo County and the Wabash River Valley. Today, First Financial Bank is the oldest national bank in Indiana and the sixth oldest in the United States, still holding the 47th charter granted in the United States Anticipating passage of a state law that would allow multi-bank holding companies, the bank applied for approval from the Federal Reserve Board to establish such an entity. It received that approval in February 1983, and First Financial Corporation became the holding company for what was then Terre Haute First National Bank. In August 1984, First Financial Corporation became the first multi-bank holding company in the state of Indiana. The Corporation is the only publicly traded company headquartered in Vigo County and has been ranked among the top 100 most efficient bank holding companies in the United States

Served 3 years in the US Army of that one year in Vietnam in Army Intelligence with a Top Secret Clearance. Worked in Government for 30 plus years and served as an Agency Head for three Indiana Governors. The Department of Natural Resources had over 3000 employees statewide as well as a Public Safrty Agency Head. I retired from Government in 2004 for one day and went to work at First Financial Bank as VP of Business, Economic Development and Government Relations. I currently serve of on 12 boards to represent First Financial Bank. Was appointed by Congress in 1999 to serve on a Advisory Panel to Assess Domestic Reponse Capabilities for Terrorism involving Weapons of Mass Destruction to for five years known as the Gilmore Commission. Governor James Gilmore was Chairman of the Commission and received a Top Secret Clearance. One of our members was Ray Downey who was killed at the World Trade Center on 9/11.. Also was appointed to serve on the Oklahoma City Memorial Institute for Prevention of Terrorism
