It's always surprising which experiences in one's life will prove relevant in the years to come. After graduating from my Bachelor of Commerce degree in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, the idea of working in an environment where your efforts resulted in nothing more than numbers on a page lost much of its appeal. My search for a more rewarding career - something a little closer to the ideal that William Morris wrote about in his book The Case for Working With Your Hands - led me into the open arms of the homebuilding industry. That fundamental shift meant that the time and energy I invested into my work would now shape the very landscape around me - indirectly of course, but in a way that assured me I had been a part of creating something tangible. The evolution of the roles I took on once I had my foot in the door at Unity Builders Group also allowed me to re-explore my graphic design and photography backgrounds, which I had originally set aside in pursuit of my degree. As a result, looking at every problem as both a creative as well as a technical challenge is a core part of who I am today. Though opportunities have taken me further in the direction of creative work in recent years, my academic background has proved invaluable in allowing me to understand the operational requirements of our business, enabling me to meld those concerns into the marketing strategies I pursue.
