Jan Solum brings deep and wide management and operational experience from more than 30 years in the maritime industries in Europe and Americas to his current roles as Area Manager for DNV and holding the position as Director of DNV's Global Cruise Ship Center. He has in particular grown extensive management skills in leading leaders and diverse teams in a complex global, multi-cultural business environment to gain foresight, create and capture growth opportunities and support customer & employee needs. He has had success with innovate solutions and developed new services supported by the right competence in various locations, while at the same time ensuring required compliance is met. His insight comes from a varied background of working onboard many different types of ships in global trade, through running the shore based operations of ships from both small vessel operators and up to the world’s largest cruise line, and by supporting customers through 13+ years working for the largest Classification Society in the world supporting more than 12.000 ships trading globally. Jan holds a bachelor degree in Maritime Engineering from University of South Eastern Norway and has completed a comprehensive range of continuous education programs. In 2015 was invited to the DNV's Global Leadership Program over 9 months through cooperation with INSEAD Business college in Singapore & Paris and with Berkley in California. In the course of his career he has also published and contributed to several articles and technical maritime publications, and been the editor of the DNV newsletters for Port State Control and the Maritime Insight Magazine for Cruise.
