Marney Boughan was fortunate to train under David Kelley, founder of IDEO, as an early adopter of the human-centered design process. She has extensive experience using design thinking to solve complex problems for both for-profits and non-profits, in start-ups and global corporations. She has strategized with the Mayo Clinic to improve the patient and caregiver experience, traversed rural India with D-Rev: Design for the Other 90% user-testing low-cost medical devices, and conducted in-home ethnographies for Sony to better understand the future of home entertainment. Motivated by skeptics, Marney enjoys teaching the design thinking process through innovation workshops at Stanford's d.school, Capital One, AT&T, Cedars Sinai, TED, UCLA, Northwestern, USC, General Assembly, Tallwave, and TiE. She holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering (Product Design) from Stanford, an MBA from Kellogg, and a MEng in Design and Innovation from Northwestern. While at Northwestern, she co-founded a course, Innovate for Impact, that brought together interdisciplinary students to design innovative market-based solutions to the world’s toughest problems, including poverty, disease and hunger.
