I was appointed Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer at CAE in May 2022, after co-leading the initiative since 2019. I was named among the Top 10 DE&I Leaders of Canada by HR Manage Magazine in 2023. I am originally from Lebanon and I have lived most of my youth in the Arab world before immigrating to Canada - I understand what it is like to be part of underrepresented groups. Everything I do today is aimed at fostering and promoting a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion across CAE and in the communities and industries we operate in, where everyone feels valued, heard and they belong. CAE is a high-tech company, the global leader in pilot training, with 13,000 employees and operations in 40 countries. CAE’s DE&I leadership is recognized - in 2023 the company was included in Bloomberg’s Gender Equality Index for the 5th consecutive year, was awarded the Gold-level certification by Women in Governance and named a Top Company for Women in Emerging Technologies by Women and Drones. CAE is also one of the Top 100 Companies in Canada, and one of Forbes’ Top Female-Friendly Companies. Prior to my appointment as Chief DEI Officer, I was Director, Public Affairs and Global Communications at CAE for 15 years. I have more than 20 years experience in global strategic communications and public relations, crisis communications, internal communications, media relations and branding. Throughout my tenure at CAE, I supported the multinational’s growth by developing communication strategies that advanced its business goals, enhanced its image and reputation, and drove employee engagement. Among others, my responsibilities included CEO and financial communications and launching CAE’s new logo and branding. I am an experienced spokesperson with strong writing skills in English and French, an in-depth experience of the aerospace industry and a proven ability to lead high performance teams. Prior to joining CAE, I worked as a journalist for 11 years at CBC Television News, and was the producer in charge of the Montreal bureau of the CBC’s flagship news program, The National. I am a member of the Board of Governors of John Abbott College and was president of the Image, Visibility, and Outreach working group of Aero Montreal, Montreal’s aerospace cluster from 2015 to 2019. My work has won several awards of excellence from the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS), the Société québécoise des professionnels en relations publiques (SQPRP), and the stories I produced for the CBC won two Gemini Awards.
